Level 2 extends from 2 to 3 feet below datum 3 (Figure 23). All Recoveries (R 70, 71, 82 and 85) from Level 1 continue into this level. Recovery 77 appears at the easterly extent of the trench and rests on top of tent poles.

Type: wooden box
Location: top northwest corner of the box is 5.40 feet south/12.73 feet east/2.9 feet deep. It extends vertically from 2.9 feet to 4.4 feet below datum.
Diagnostic Artifacts: pearlware cups, pearlware saucer, pearlware plate, glass tumbler, earthenware pitcher, tin cup, tin pot, frying pan, tin coffee pot, tin plates, tin bowls, rubber blanket, brass candle holder, knifes, butchered pig bones, pen shaft, New York State coat buttons, New York State cuff buttons, general service coat button, fabric sack and jacket fragments.
Discussion: This large box measures approximately 30 inches long, 16 inches wide and 20 inches high. It is surrounded by tent poles on the sides, top and bottom. All artifacts were removed but the box was left in place. The majority of artifacts from this box represent foodway items. A lesser number of personal and military items are present. The New York State military buttons associate the box with a New York regiment.
